He Leaves The 99...

In the Bible, we read of various individuals Jesus sets out to have an encounter with. From the disciples to the others he arranges, or comes to meet. Each of them having one particular thing in common; each is in a place of necessity and desperation for more.

Take the disciples for example. They were raised to know the Torah (first five books of the Old Testament - Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers and Deuteronomy) and they were to uphold it. Their lives were geared and focused on the coming of the Messiah. They were seeking for the prophecies of a coming Messiah to be fulfilled. They were waiting for more. This was obviously not just for the disciples, but for all Jews. On top of awaiting the Messiah, some had other needs, some awaited healing and some freedom.

Now let's take a look into the woman with the issue of blood. A Jewish woman that had been enduring an illness for 12 years of constant bleeding.

”And a woman was there who had been subject to bleeding for twelve years. She had suffered a great deal under the care of many doctors and had spent all she had, yet instead of getting better she grew worse. When she heard about Jesus, she came up behind him in the crowd and touched his cloak, because she thought, “If I just touch his clothes, I will be healed.” Immediately her bleeding stopped and she felt in her body that she was freed from her suffering.“ ‭‭Mark‬ ‭5‬:‭25‬-‭29‬ ‭NIV‬‬

In these biblical times, a woman was considered unclean during her menstrual cycle so imagine the agony she had to endure for 12 years. To be rejected by all and to see no end in sight. This woman was desperate for more. She was desperate for healing. She believed that if she touched just the tip of Jesus’s garment that she would be healed. In a moment of desperation and crazy faith, she risked it all and obtained her healing! You have to understand the risk this woman was making. In these times, a person that was considered unclean and made contact with another individual could have been stoned to death and even more with her approaching Jesus who was an honorable Rabbi.

What about the father whose son was demon possessed? The father was desperate. He wanted his son to be free from demonic oppression.

”A man in the crowd answered, “Teacher, I brought you my son, who is possessed by a spirit that has robbed him of speech. Whenever it seizes him, it throws him to the ground. He foams at the mouth, gnashes his teeth and becomes rigid. I asked your disciples to drive out the spirit, but they could not.” “You unbelieving generation,” Jesus replied, “how long shall I stay with you? How long shall I put up with you? Bring the boy to me.” So they brought him. When the spirit saw Jesus, it immediately threw the boy into a convulsion. He fell to the ground and rolled around, foaming at the mouth. Jesus asked the boy’s father, “How long has he been like this?” “From childhood,” he answered. “It has often thrown him into fire or water to kill him. But if you can do anything, take pity on us and help us.” “ ‘If you can’?” said Jesus. “Everything is possible for one who believes.” Immediately the boy’s father exclaimed, “I do believe; help me overcome my unbelief!” When Jesus saw that a crowd was running to the scene, he rebuked the impure spirit. “You deaf and mute spirit,” he said, “I command you, come out of him and never enter him again.” The spirit shrieked, convulsed him violently and came out. The boy looked so much like a corpse that many said, “He’s dead.” But Jesus took him by the hand and lifted him to his feet, and he stood up.“ ‭‭Mark‬ ‭9‬:‭17‬-‭27‬ ‭NIV‬‬

How long could this boy have been waiting for his freedom? The scripture tells us that the unclean spirit had been with him since childhood. To be a parent and see your child suffering places you in a position of desperation. Desperation for wholeness. Desperation for healing. Desperation for freedom. All of which were fulfilled by Jesus. This father chose to believe that Jesus could set his son free.

The Bible covers 37 miracles performed by Jesus. I believe as many others do, that there were far more than 37 miracles. But the point that I want to make is that there was needs and desperation for more and Jesus met them and exceeded them all!

Are you looking for more? Are you in a place of desperation? I think we all know the feeling of wanting or looking for more or being desperate for more. At one point in our life, we reach a place where we question if there is more to life apart from what we are living in. Suddenly our daily lives feel mundane, leaving us with a feeling of emptiness.

There is no surprise that you feel this way, or have felt this way in the past. I’ve been there. I truly believe that the desire for God is written in the human heart because man is created by God and for God. The Bible tells us that we were created in his image. (Genesis 1:27) The Bible also tells us that God created us before we were in our mother's womb. (Jeremiah 1:5)  How amazing it is to know that the God who created the heavens and the earth, the God of the universe also created us. Naturally, there would have to be this gravitational pull in our heart that would cause us to yearn for a perfect God to make us whole and complete.

It’s perfectly normal to want more. God is wanting us to draw near to him. He wants to give us more. If you are feeling unseen, unloved, empty, lost, confused, tired, discouraged, or any other feeling that is keeping you from the peace that Jesus gives us then I have some great news for you. Jesus is the answer to all of your problems. Yup, you read that right, all of your problems! This world has absolutely nothing to offer that will be everlasting like Jesus. You won’t find it at the bottom of a liquor bottle, you won’t find it at all those parties or clubs, you won’t find it getting high on any form of drug, you won’t find it in your love life, you won’t find it in porn videos, or any other lustful perverse acts. You won’t find it in your careers, business endeavors, husband, or wife, or your children. True, everlasting, undeniable fulfillment only comes from Jesus.

The only way anyone will ever find full and true fulfillment in life is when we are walking with Christ, but also living for Christ. That’s important to note because too often we see Christians not being fulfilled, but that’s mostly because they are not living a life sanctified and consecrated to God. When God is Lord over your life, then there are things that you just don’t struggle with because true fulfillment comes from God. If you are truly abiding in Jesus, then there is a weight that he lifts making it easier for you to walk in this world full of temptations. Hear me, I never said that it's easy because it's not but what I am saying is that living a life set apart for Jesus and choosing to believe that what he has for us is far better then what we could ever conjure up definitely beats living a life that daily gratifies our fleshly desires.

I am here to encourage you, and to tell you that there is hope. It doesn’t matter what your situation is. If you’re a teenager trying to figure out your purpose in life, if you’re an adult that is trying to navigate adulthood and the pressures and responsibilities that come with it or if you’re a husband or a wife that is struggling in the marriage or struggling individually or if your child has taken a rough path, or if your a single parent trying to do your best in raising your child or children, truly, I tell you there is hope!

The love of the Father is like nothing you could ever describe. His love is undefiled. He loves you no matter your sins or weaknesses. You are his creation. He created you in his image, remember that. Seeing you suffer and be lost grieves him. He wants you more than anything but you have to want him back. So often people think they need to get “better” or less “sinful” in order to seek Jesus, but that’s one of the biggest lies of the enemy. The whole reason why Jesus came was to bear our sins so all we have to do is say yes to him and allow him to work in and through us.

If you know Jesus and have accepted him as your Lord and savior, but you aren’t living for him, I want you to reconsider your lifestyle. If you aren’t living in such a way that pleases him, operating and walking in the fear of the Lord, and walking into a sanctified and consecrated life towards Jesus, I want to tell you that he wants all of you. He doesn’t just want a portion of you. He is pursuing you so stop running from him and choosing to be lukewarm. Stop grieving the Holy Spirit by living in such a way that you are fully aware displeases God. Repent. Living a life of repentance is acknowledging the areas in your life that you know grieves God, and choosing to turn towards Jesus, and living a God honoring life. Trust Jesus, he will not fail you.

I’d like to close by sharing a story with you found in the scriptures that further shows us just how committed and faithful Jesus is. In the book of Luke, we read about two criminals that were led away along with Jesus on the way to his crucifixion to be executed as well.

”One of the criminals who hung there hurled insults at him: “Aren’t you the Messiah? Save yourself and us!” But the other criminal rebuked him. “Don’t you fear God,” he said, “since you are under the same sentence? We are punished justly, for we are getting what our deeds deserve. But this man has done nothing wrong.” ‭‭Luke‬ ‭23‬:‭39‬-‭41‬ ‭NIV‬‬

This story is so beautiful and touching to me. The Bible doesn’t give an account for this man’s life. We don’t know if he tried to live a righteous life and maybe got caught up with the wrong people or if this was just what he was exposed to and chose this lifestyle. But what we do know is that Jesus is present, even as he himself is dying on the cross next to this criminal. Even in his last moments of life, Jesus meets the need of this man who, in a matter of minutes, realizes he needs something; he needs salvation. He acknowledges Jesus as the Messiah, and operates in the fear of God. He quickly realizes that his punishment is deserved, but he chooses to BELIEVE that Jesus can wipe him clean and his request is granted by Jesus.

”Then he said, “Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom.” Jesus answered him, “Truly I tell you, today you will be with me in paradise.”‭‭ Luke‬ ‭23‬:‭42‬-‭43‬ ‭NIV‬‬

There is a common action word that is shared by the individuals that met with Jesus to have their needs met...

They believed.

Where is Jesus meeting you at? Do you hear him knocking? Don’t wait any longer and open the door, commune with him and allow him to meet and exceed all your needs. If you are the one doing the knocking, then know that the door is already open, come into everything he has for you. Choose to believe. Choose to believe that he can truly do the impossible because he can. Whatever you are struggling with, release it to him, surrender it and surrender yourself daily. He will do what you never thought possible. Joy will be your portion. Peace will be your portion. Supernatural provisions will be your portion. Healing will be your portion. Freedom will be your portion. Clarity of mind will be your portion. Wisdom will be your portion. Say yes to Jesus. He left the 99 just for you!

”For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because they have not believed in the name of God’s one and only Son.“ ‭‭John‬ ‭3‬:‭16‬-‭18‬ ‭NIV‬‬
